Walking into the Coca-Cola Roxy on Saturday night felt like stepping into something bigger than just another show. With a Braves game happening next door at Truist Park, the entire area was packed, loud, and moving nonstop. Getting through the crowd outside took a minute, but once inside, everything shifted. The room felt focused, almost anticipatory, like everyone knew this was not going to be a typical concert.

The night opened with comedian Dave Hill, who didn’t ease into anything. He came crashing onto the stage on a BMX bike wearing a kid’s helmet, immediately turning the room into controlled chaos. His set leaned into the chaos in a way that felt intentional, bouncing between dry humor, absurd storytelling, and guitar-driven bits that parodied arena rock.

It never settled into a predictable rhythm, but that was the point. The Atlanta crowd leaned into it, especially as Hill worked in local references and let the set feel loose without ever losing control. At one point he was swinging around nunchucks like he was in an over-the-top martial arts scene, fully committing to it in a way that had the entire room reacting. The crowd never let up, chanting his name throughout the set as he kept pushing the energy forward.

By the time Puscifer took the stage just after 9:00 p.m., the tone shifted again. A pre-show message made it clear that phones needed to be put away, setting the expectation that this was something meant to be experienced in the moment. Opening with “Thrust” from their latest album Normal Isn’t, the band immediately locked into a slow, hypnotic groove that carried through the entire night.

What stood out most was how intentional everything felt. This was not a set built around big peaks or obvious crowd moments. Instead, Puscifer created a steady pull that kept the audience fully engaged. Maynard James Keenan moved through the performance with a quiet control, playing off Carina Round and the rest of the band in a way that felt more like a staged production than a traditional concert.

One of the most memorable moments came mid-set during a staged duel between Keenan and Round. It started with a guy walking out holding a box that honestly looked like it might have been donuts at first. Instead, it turned into a full bit. Two pistols came out, and the two of them played it up like a classic standoff, stretching the moment just enough to pull the crowd in. Then Maynard set his pistol down and picked up a slingshot, acting like he was firing at Round. She answered by putting hers down and pulling out a machine gun, which led to Maynard going full Matrix, twisting and leaning around the stage like he was dodging every shot coming his way. It was theatrical, unexpected, and fit perfectly into the world they built on stage.

Musically, the set leaned into atmosphere over impact. Tracks like “The Remedy,” “The Humbling River,” and “Momma Sed” blended seamlessly with newer material, all tied together by pulsing electronics, steady rhythms, and layered textures. Even the 10 minute intermission felt intentional, giving the night a structure that never broke immersion.

And just when it felt like the night had settled into its final stretch, Dave Hill returned, joining in for a cover of Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talkin’ ’Bout Love” alongside Puscifer and Atlanta’s own Puddles Pity Party (Mike Geier). It gave the crowd one last unexpected moment before the show closed.

Closing with “A Public Stoning,” the night didn’t end with a massive release. It ended the same way it began, pulling the audience into something immersive that lingered even after the lights came up.

Puscifer doesn’t chase big moments. They build an experience, and if you let it pull you in, it stays with you long after the show ends. This is only the beginning of the Normal Isn’t tour run, and if this show was any indication, it’s something you’re going to want to experience in person. If this tour comes anywhere near you, make the time and go catch it.
