Brent Hinds, co-founder, guitarist, and vocalist of Mastodon, has tragically passed away following a motorcycle accident in Atlanta, Georgia, on the night of August 20, 2025. He was 51 years old.


According to reports, Hinds was riding his Harley-Davidson when a BMW SUV failed to yield during a left turn, colliding with his motorcycle at the intersection of Memorial Drive SE and Boulevard SE. Hinds was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV stayed and cooperated fully with authorities, and the police are still investigating the accident.


Born in Alabama on January 16, 1974, Brent Hinds helped redefine the landscape of heavy music. As a founding member of Mastodon, he was instrumental in shaping the band's signature sound, fusing progressive and sludge metal into something unique and influential. His skills as both a guitarist and a songwriter were central to landmark albums such as *Leviathan*, *Blood Mountain*, and *Crack the Skye*. Through his work, Mastodon became one of the most important and innovative bands in modern rock and metal.


Earlier this year, Hinds and Mastodon parted ways in a split that captured public attention. Despite the end of his tenure with the band, Hinds remained active in the music community, collaborating on various projects and continuing to inspire with his creativity.
