Summer of Loud Melts Atlanta: Eight Bands, One Inferno of a Show

Lakewood Amphitheatre – June 24, 2025

Atlanta didn’t just host a metalcore show on June 24. It hosted a survival test. With temperatures climbing over 100 degrees and humidity thick enough to hang in the air, Lakewood Amphitheatre turned into a pressure cooker of sweat, sound, and fire. But despite the brutal heat, fans poured in early and stayed locked in for a full day of volume, emotion, and chaos.

I used to shrug off metalcore as just noise. But over the last few years, bands like Parkway Drive and Architects have completely shifted my perspective. Now, when life feels overwhelming and the world won't slow down, I find myself craving the kind of controlled intensity this scene delivers. So when Summer of Loud came to town, I was all in.

The first set kicked off right at 3PM, and the early crowd showed up ready for a show, and they definitely got one. TX2 wasted no time, delivering a high-octane set that felt like a fistfight with the atmosphere. Alpha Wolf followed with blunt-force heaviness that set the tone for the day. Watching both bands give it their all in the Atlanta heat made their performances hit even harder.

The Devil Wears Prada followed, and their experience showed. Songs like “Watchtower” and “Danger: Wildman” were laser-focused, with Mike Hranica’s growls cutting through the haze. Jeremy DePoyster’s clean vocals brought contrast and melody to a set that walked the line between fury and finesse. The Amity Affliction leaned into the emotional side of metalcore, with “Pittsburgh” and “All My Friends Are Dead” landing like open wounds.

Parkway Drive took the stage next. They were first in the rotating headliner slot for this stop and treated it like a major festival set. Winston McCall’s voice tore through the humidity on “Glitch,” and by the time they hit “Vice Grip” and “Crushed,” the crowd had given up on staying dry or still. “Prey” brought one of the biggest crowd responses of the night, turning the pit into one unified sea of motion.

I Prevail stepped into a big moment, performing for the first time in Atlanta since Brian Burkheiser’s departure. Eric Vanlerberghe rose to the occasion, leading a set that felt defiant and forward-focused. “Bow Down” and “Bad Things” got massive reactions, but it was their Taylor Swift cover of “Blank Space” that caught everyone off guard in the best way. It hit at just the right time and gave the crowd a second wind.

Beartooth followed with one of the most emotionally raw sets of the day. Caleb Shomo doesn’t hold back, and his delivery on “The Lines” and “I Was Alive” felt like someone dragging trauma into the light. His connection with the crowd is something you feel in your chest. Beartooth turned pain into power and gave the audience a reason to scream it all out.

Killswitch Engage closed the night with veteran confidence. Jesse Leach sounded sharp and passionate, bringing classics like “Rose of Sharyn” and “My Curse” to life with renewed urgency. The band delivered a textbook lesson in melodic metalcore with “The Signal Fire” and “In Due Time,” and wrapped things up with their thunderous cover of “Holy Diver.” At that point, it felt like the only possible way to close a night that had been about resilience from the start.

Summer of Loud wasn’t just another tour. It was an endurance trial, a therapy session, and a celebration all wrapped into one scorching marathon. Atlanta showed up and left everything in the pit. The heat didn’t stop the music. It just made it heavier. If this tour hasn’t passed your town yet, then buy your tickets now. You will not be disappointed, I promise.
