San Diego, CA | May 22, 2025 — The music world is mourning the loss of Dave Shapiro, co-founder of Sound Talent Group, who was tragically killed in a private jet crash early Wednesday morning in San Diego.
Shapiro, 42, was piloting a Cessna 550 Citation II when the aircraft went down near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. All six people on board were killed, including former The Devil Wears Prada drummer Daniel Williams and two Sound Talent Group staffers. The jet was en route from New Jersey and crashed during a foggy landing attempt, striking power lines before impacting a residential neighborhood.
No fatalities were reported on the ground, though several homes were damaged and eight residents were treated for injuries. The NTSB is currently investigating the cause.
A Deep Loss for the Music Industry
Dave Shapiro began his career as the drummer for Count the Stars, later transitioning into the agency world with The Agency Group and United Talent Agency. In 2018, he co-founded Sound Talent Group, where he repped powerhouse clients including Sum 41, Pierce the Veil, Parkway Drive, and Lamb of God.
He also ran Velocity Records and Velocity Aviation, combining his passions for music and flying. Shapiro was widely respected in both industries for his integrity, drive, and mentorship.
